Bahu fort
Located on a rock face on the left bank of river Tawi one of
the most famous fascinating forts of Jammu Kashmir is Bahu fort. The grand
structure of Bahu fort is the oldest construction in
Jammu.
The green terraced gardens, magnificent waterfalls, blooming
flowers inside this fort make it one of the most serene forts that you would
have ever witnessed.

Bahu fort is constructed by Raja Bahulochan over 3,000 years ago, the existing fort was more recently improved and rebuilt by Dogra rulers. Popularly known as Bave wali Mata is a temple dedicated to the Goddess Kali inside the fort.Bave wali Mata is the presiding Goddess of Jammu. This temple was constructed in 1822.It is called the temple of the Mahakali and the deity of this temple is regarded second only to Goddess Vaishno Devi if mystical power is taken into account.
Built around Bahu fort, an extensive terraced garden named Bagh-e-Bahu is a favorite picnic place of the city folk. It has flowers, waterfalls and big trees and is an ideal place to sit and relax. One can enjoy sunset and the rare sight of river Tawi changing its colours at dusk. Tourists come to visit this magnificent fort from all parts of India to discover more on the history of the state.
